1 Special kama sutra secret
techniques
The Kamasutram,
otherwise known as the Kama Sutra is one of the most misunderstood
pieces of literature. Most people think the Kama Sutra is a book
dedicated entirely to love making techniques. This is not true. The
Kama Sutra and its secret techniques are but a small part of a larger
piece of Indian literature that talks about love.
Written in
Sanskrit, the entire text of the Kama Sutra focuses in how to enjoy
pleasures (sensory) while leading a virtuous life on earth. The texts
further stress that any one should know at an early age how to work
for a living and how to escape the cycle of rebirth. Rebirth refers to
the death and return of a persons being or soul into the world as a
person or as an animal depending on how the persons past life was led.
The premise that
the Kama Sutra possesses secret love making techniques is over rated.
Yes, there are parts of the book that touch on lovemaking but the
majority of the book is focuses primarily on philosophy, psychology,
and Hindu teachings. It also contains social and sexual customs during
that time. In the Kama Sutra, personal hygiene was of paramount
importance for the in Hindu tradition; the body is treated with
reverence. Furthermore, the book details on how the body should be
cleansed and maintained.
Other ‘secret’
techniques are actually lessons that women should know and practice
like cooking, fashion, massage and the making of perfumes. These are
the main arts a woman should excel in. Other less obvious arts include
conjuring, chess, bookbinding and carpentry. One overlooked art is
that of secret writing or writing in code. This was used when women
had to write to conceal their liaisons
Probably one of the
most and widely known Kama Sutra English translation was by Sir
Richard Francis Burton, an English traveler and writer. He compiled
them in 1883 but regarded and labeled it as a “poor collection” or
“inadequate piece of work” which gave the book a reputation of being
pornographic - which the reputation of the book has kept through the
years.
The Kama Sutra is
composed of 36 chapters and organized into seven parts namely:
The Introduction,
On Sexual Union, About the Acquisition of a wife, About a Wife, About
the Wives of other people, About Courtesans, and lastly On the means
of attracting others to One’s Self. The part that focuses on Sexual
Intercourse lies in the early chapters of the book.
Interestingly,
India has played a large role in the history of Sex in the world
today. It was argued that India introduced the use of sexual
education through its various literature and arts. It is also
interesting to note that early Indians regarded sexual intercourse as
a science and most of the early teachings are very much present in
various Modern New Age groups.
Lastly, the Kama
Sutra is an excellent piece of literature that not only opened Hindu
teachings to the world but also brought with it means of awareness
through its various techniques which were closely clouded in secrecy
and misinformation during the early years.
