Kama Sutra
Techniques and Wisdom:What
is it?
We have heard this
word countless times. Pun and criticism inevitably tags along with
this word. Kama Sutra was written between the 1st and 4th
centuries. With its meaning Kama – desire and Sutra- rules. A Hindu
god Kama which they believe a god of love and which also means to
“engage in love and pleasure”.
It is interesting
to know how the book discussed about ancient home made Viagras during
their time. Who would think of boiling a sparrow egg on milk with a
dose of butter and honey to make a phenomenal drug and increase man’s
sexual activity and cure erectile dysfunction?
It is amazing on
how this book have helped other people increase their confidence and
having a contented sexual relationship with their partner. Kissing is
something that most of us know already. But I bet anyone would love
to know the“ 40 different varieties of kissing” which is visually
discussed in the book.
Only 20 percent of
the book talks about sexual positions, and the rest of it pertain to
the other human desires in the arts such as singing, dancing, poetry
and reading. Most of us are not aware that Kama Sutra also discusses
topics about man-woman relationships and how-to’s on being a good
citizen. Did you know that it also discussed interior decorating
tips? Ways in organizing the house?
Kama Sutra- On
Law and Religion
But one chapter of
the book actually discusses instructions on seducing and getting away
on sleeping with somebody else’s wife. In some cultures, this
practice may be considered as a status symbol. Having a wife more than
one may justify the practices of Kama Sutra in attracting men/ women.
But Christianity
tells us otherwise. If you live on the sinful nature, your mind is
set on that particular nature. Christianity does not condemn sexual
desire if it is within the context of marriage. In fact, exploring
your sexual desires as married couple is encouraged. But you see, if
you have a desire of sleeping with your neighbor’s wife, that is
definitely contrary to what the bible wants us to do, or should I
say what the law requires us to do; then sin and morality issues
contradict the principles of Kama Sutra.
Kama Sutra is
indeed a mind opener. Whether you are a Hindu, a Christian, or
whatever religion you maybe in, the question remains “Is it morally
appropriate?”. For we are under the law. What law requires, we should
follow. And under it has penalty for any infringement or violation.
And these sexual preferences particularly coveting with a married
man/woman defies the human right of another person.
Just as it is
written in the bible. “19The acts of the sinful nature are
obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry
and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish
ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness,
orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live
like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.” 22But the
fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such
things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus
have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.
25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the
Spirit.” Galatians 5:19-25
We may have
different beliefs, culture and up bringing. But we are under one
law. Whether it is the law of man or God; that law is to be followed.
